{"id":2748,"date":"2026-04-06T15:01:53","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T15:01:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/modernsuperbazar.shop\/?p=2748"},"modified":"2026-04-06T15:01:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T15:01:53","slug":"where-are-irans-power-plants-that-trump-has-threatened-to-destroy-us-israel-war-on-iran-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/modernsuperbazar.shop\/?p=2748","title":{"rendered":"Where are Iran\u2019s power plants that Trump has threatened to destroy? | US-Israel war on Iran News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>US President Donald Trump has issued a direct <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/4\/6\/trumps-bridge-day-threat-can-a-last-ditch-ceasefire-plan-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ultimatum<\/a> to Iran: reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8pm Eastern Time in the United States on Tuesday, April 7 (midnight GMT on April 8), or face the destruction of national power plants and bridges.<\/p>\n<p>This echoes an earlier March 21 ultimatum in which he threatened to attack Iran\u2019s power plants \u2013 \u201cthe biggest one first\u201d \u2013 if the strait was not fully reopened within 48 hours.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump has since extended that deadline <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/3\/26\/trump-postpones-us-strikes-on-iranian-power-grid-to-april-6-amid-talks\">several<\/a> times, citing progress in negotiations he claims the US is having with Iran to end the ongoing war. Iran denies it is holding direct talks with the US.<\/p>\n<p>While Trump has made grand statements such as \u201cthey\u2019re going to lose every power plant and every other plant they have in the whole country\u201d, he has not mentioned specific targets.<\/p>\n<p>The US president has also threatened to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/economy\/2026\/4\/6\/in-maps-and-photos-five-iranian-civilian-bridges-at-risk-of-us-strikes\">destroy the country\u2019s bridges<\/a>. Over the weekend, a US-Israeli strike hit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/4\/3\/iran-condemns-us-israeli-moral-collapse-after-attacks-on-civilian-sites\">B1 bridge in the city of Karaj<\/a>, west of Tehran. The major highway link, described as the tallest bridge in the Middle East, had been scheduled to be inaugurated soon. It sustained significant damage in the strike.<\/p>\n<p>Legal experts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/3\/30\/trump-threatens-to-blow-up-all-desalination-plants-in-iran\">say<\/a> that targeting civilian sites amounts to \u201ccollective punishment\u201d, which is prohibited under the laws of war.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"where-are-iran-s-power-plants\">Where are Iran\u2019s power plants?<\/h2>\n<p>Iran operates hundreds of power plants which, together, form one of the largest electricity systems in the Middle East, supplying energy to 92 million people.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the country\u2019s power plants are close to major population centres and industrial hubs. In the north and centre of the country, clusters of gas-fired plants supply electricity to the country\u2019s largest population centres, including Tehran, Karaj, Isfahan and Mashhad.<\/p>\n<p>Another major concentration of power plants lies along the Gulf coast. These plants sit close to major gasfields and ports, allowing large thermal stations to run on abundant natural gas.<\/p>\n<p>The coast is also home to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/4\/5\/why-an-attack-on-bushehr-nuclear-plant-would-be-catastrophic-for-the-gulf\">Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant<\/a>, Iran\u2019s only nuclear power facility, which has a capacity of 1,000MW. The country has one of the world\u2019s largest natural gas reserves, and this fuel forms the backbone of its power system.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, 86 percent of Iran\u2019s electricity came from natural gas.<\/p>\n<p>Oil-fired plants provide a smaller share, generating roughly seven percent of electricity.
