Barcelona and Spain international forward Lamine Yamal blasted his home support\u2019s chants during the match against Egypt.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Published On 7 Apr 2026<\/span>7 Apr 2026<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n World football\u2019s governing body, FIFA, has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Spanish football federation over anti-Muslim chants heard at a recent match between Spain and Egypt.<\/p>\n A section of fans at the RCDE stadium in Barcelona had chanted<\/a>, \u201cWhoever doesn\u2019t jump is a Muslim\u201d, during the international friendly on March 31.<\/p>\n list of 4 items<\/span>end of list<\/span><\/section>\n \u201cFIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings today against the Spanish FA for the incidents in the friendly against Egypt,\u201d the governing body said in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n It was the latest in a string of similar incidents to overshadow Spanish football in recent years, with Real Madrid\u2019s Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior in particular repeatedly racially abused.<\/p>\n Last week, Spanish police said they were investigating \u201cIslamophobic and xenophobic\u201d chants, and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez condemned an \u201cunacceptable\u201d incident while insisting that an \u201cuncivil minority\u201d would not be allowed to tarnish the country.<\/p>\n The Spanish Football Federation had also condemned the chants while Spain forward Lamine Yamal, who is Muslim and played in the match, blasted \u201ca lack of respect\u201d by those who are \u201cignorant and racist\u201d.<\/p>\n Adding that he felt the chants were disrespectful and intolerable, Barcelona star, Yamal, said it didn\u2019t matter that he was not targeted.<\/p>\n Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa said he does not believe<\/a> that Spain was a tolerant country and not racist.<\/p>\n \u201cIf it was [racist], we would have a problem every weekend at all of the stadiums,\u201d the Spaniard told reporters about his homeland.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n![](\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/PXL_20210627_155635971-1-1696493612.jpg?resize=96%2C96&quality=80)
